Violet and Spotty Fly South

Violet was very tired. Her bright orange wings became so heavy that she felt like a huge bulky dragon instead of a weightless butterfly she was. Her flock was on their way to Mexico where the butterflies intended to spend winter. The distance was very long, and at times they stopped to take a break and restore their strength.           

            During one of the afternoon rest stops Violet ventured to the other side of the meadow – simply to explore it and to marvel at the bushes and flowers that grew in the field. As she sniffed the blossoms and was about to start sucking their nectar, she heard somebody noisily humming as if trying to get her attention. She turned her head towards the noise and saw a ladybug. He was sitting on another branch  crying.

            Violet flopped her wings and leaped to the ladybug’s branch. “Why are you crying?” she said.
